KIKI | BOUBA
A series of 200 generative pieces showcasing neural networks’ ability to replicate the Bouba/Kiki Effect: a phenomenon of non-arbitrary mental mapping between speech sounds & visual forms, discovered by Wolfgang Kohler in 1929. A German psychologist, Wolfgang put two images before a group of people from a variety of languages and cultures: one spiky, one round and blobby.
"Which one is named kiki, which one bouba?" he asked them. 96% of them answered the spiky one is kiki and the round, blobby one is bouba.
